Who Can Be Nominated?
The City of Vaughan is calling for nominations for the 2024 Order of Vaughan, the highest honor the city can bestow. This prestigious award is given to individuals who have significantly contributed to the community through their service, leadership, and dedication. To be eligible, nominees must be alive at the time of nomination and have devoted their time, talent, and resources to enhance Vaughan’s community. It is important to note that city employees, current elected officials at any government level, and self-nominations are not permitted. The Order of Vaughan recognizes contributions across various sectors including accessibility, athletics, arts and entertainment, business, education, environment, equity and diversity, health and wellness, media and communications, not-for-profit, philanthropy, public service, science and technology, and spirituality.
How to Nominate a Deserving Individual
Submission of Nominations
To nominate someone, you must fill out a nomination form and gather supporting documents that highlight the nominee’s character and achievements. This includes three reference letters from individuals who have firsthand knowledge of the nominee’s impact. Additionally, supplementary materials such as news articles, reviews, and samples of work (like excerpts from writings or musical compositions) should be included to strengthen the nomination. These can be submitted via email to [email protected] or by mail to the Office of the City Clerk, Attention: Order of Vaughan, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Vaughan, ON L6A 1T1.
Deadline and Selection Process
The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 30, 2024. After the nomination period closes, the Order of Vaughan Selection Committee will review all entries and recommend successful candidates to the Council for approval. The selected nominees will be honored by Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council at an official investiture ceremony later in the year.
Background and Impact of the Order of Vaughan
History and Purpose
Established in 2015, the Order of Vaughan was created to acknowledge and pay tribute to individuals who have made meaningful impacts on the civic life of Vaughan. Since its inception, 63 individuals have been recognized for their contributions to the city’s success. For the year 2024, up to 10 nominees may be eligible to receive this distinguished award.This initiative not only celebrates the outstanding achievements of individuals but also inspires others in the community to strive for excellence and contribute positively to the city’s ongoing prosperity and well-being.
