Overview of the Redevelopment
Doctors McLean District Park, a prominent and well-utilized park located at 8100 Islington Ave. in Vaughan, is set for significant enhancements. Nestled next to the Humber River and covering 15.5 hectares (38.3 acres), this secluded park is surrounded by forest and currently features a playground, a large-covered pavilion, a smaller shade structure, and a parking lot with a capacity for 100 vehicles.
Key Developments and Community Input
In alignment with the City of Vaughan’s Parks Redevelopment Strategy and the Active Together Master Plan, the park is undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment. By the summer of 2026, the city plans to connect a crucial segment of the Humber Trail by constructing a new bridge and pathways that will link Clarence Street with both Islington Avenue and Woodbridge Avenue.Further enhancements include replacing the existing playground, adding a splashpad, constructing a new shade structure, updating trails and pathways, and adding educational/interpretive signage. Additional seating and viewpoints are also planned, along with increased naturalization to enrich the park’s biodiversity. These improvements are set to begin in 2025 and are partially funded by the Province of Ontario as part of the Humber Trail Study, which was approved by Vaughan Council in 2021.
