Overview
Doctors McLean District Park, a cherished green space located at 8100 Islington Ave., is set for significant improvements. Nestled next to the Humber River in Ward 2, this expansive park spans approximately 15.5 hectares (38.3 acres) and is a haven of tranquility surrounded by lush forest. Currently equipped with a playground, a large-covered pavilion, a smaller shade structure, and a parking lot for 100 vehicles, the park is a popular destination for community members seeking outdoor recreation and event spaces.
Upcoming Enhancements
Connecting the Humber Trail
A major development scheduled by the summer of 2026 involves bridging a crucial gap in the Humber Trail. This initiative aims to seamlessly connect Clarence Street with both Islington Avenue and Woodbridge Avenue through the construction of a new bridge and pathways within the park’s bounds.
Park Improvements
In addition to the trail connection, the City of Vaughan is seizing the opportunity to upgrade various park features. These enhancements include:
- Replacing the existing playground to offer modern and safe play equipment for children.
- Adding a splashpad to provide a fun and refreshing water play area during warmer months.
- Constructing a new shade structure to ensure visitors can enjoy the park comfortably even on sunny days.
- Installing educational/interpretive signage to enrich the park experience with informative content about the local environment and history.
- Updating park trails and pathways for improved accessibility and enjoyment of the park’s natural beauty.
- Adding seating and viewpoints to create inviting spaces for relaxation and nature observation.
- Increasing naturalization to enhance the park’s biodiversity and ecological health.
Work on these projects is anticipated to commence in 2025, transforming Doctors McLean District Park into an even more vibrant and engaging community asset.
